How to Change UPI PIN in PhonePe
PhonePe, a popular digital payment platform in India, leverages the UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for seamless money transfers. To ensure the security of your transactions, PhonePe requires a UPI PIN. But what if you forget your PIN or simply want to change it for added security? Worry not! This guide will walk you through the process of changing your UPI PIN in PhonePe with clear and concise steps.
Before You Start: Essential Requirements
Before we delve into the steps, ensure you have the following:
- PhonePe App: Make sure you have the latest version of the PhonePe app downloaded and installed on your smartphone.
- Registered Mobile Number: Your registered PhonePe phone number will receive a one-time password (OTP). Ensure this number is active and accessible.
- Debit/ATM Card Details: In most cases, you’ll need your debit or ATM card details linked to the bank account for which you want to change the UPI PIN.
Changing Your UPI PIN in PhonePe: A Step-by-Step Breakdown
Launch the PhonePe App: Open the PhonePe app on your smartphone.
Navigate to Your Profile: Look for the profile picture icon on the PhonePe app’s home screen. Tap on it to access your profile settings.
Select the bank account: Under the “Payment Methods” section, you’ll see a list of bank accounts linked to your PhonePe account. Locate the bank account for which you want to change the UPI PIN and tap it.
Find the “Reset UPI PIN” option: Scroll down within the selected bank account details and locate the “Reset UPI PIN” option. If you haven’t set one yet, it might also display as “Set/Reset UPI PIN”. Tap on this option.
Choosing Your Verification Method:
PhonePe offers two methods for verifying your identity and resetting your UPI PIN:
Using a debit or ATM card: This is the most common method. You’ll be prompted to enter the last six digits of your debit or ATM card linked to the chosen bank account, along with the expiration date.
Using Aadhaar Number: This method is available if your Aadhaar number is associated with your bank account. Select the “Aadhaar number linked with the bank” option and proceed.
Here’s what to do based on your chosen verification method:
Using a debit or ATM card:
- Enter Debit/ATM Card Details: Enter the last six digits of your debit or ATM card and the expiration date (in MM/YY format). If your card doesn’t have an expiration date, enter “00/49.”.
Verify with OTP: You’ll receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number. Enter the received OTP in the designated field within the PhonePe app.
Set Your New UPI PIN: Now comes the crucial part—creating your new UPI PIN. Choose a strong 4- or 6-digit PIN that’s easy to remember but difficult for others to guess.
Confirm Your New PIN: Re-enter your chosen new UPI PIN to confirm it.
Success! Once you confirm the new PIN, PhonePe will display a confirmation message indicating your UPI PIN has been successfully reset.
Using the Aadhaar Number:
- Select Aadhaar Verification: Choose the “Aadhaar number linked with the bank” option and tap “Proceed.”.
Enter the First 6 Digits of Aadhaar: You’ll be prompted to enter the first six digits of your Aadhaar number.
Receive Dual OTPs: Upon entering the first six digits of your Aadhaar, you’ll receive two OTPs—one from your bank and another from UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India).
Enter Received OTPs: Enter both of the OTPs received on your phone number in the designated fields within the PhonePe app.
Set and Confirm Your New PIN: Similar to the debit card method, follow steps 7 and 8 mentioned earlier to set and confirm your new UPI PIN.
Success! PhonePe will confirm that your UPI PIN has been successfully reset using Aadhaar verification.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully changed your UPI PIN in PhonePe. Remember to keep your new PIN confidential and avoid sharing it with anyone.
